Suzie Templeton “Dog”

Suzie Templeton’s “Dog” isn’t new—it was first released back in 2002—but it’s a beautiful example of how subtlety can convey so much emotion. The father rubbing his temples, the lifeless swing of his arm after he flicks off the bedroom light. But it’s not just about character animation. The narrative is powerful—gut-wrenchingly sad and a little spooky.

Thanks to Chris Carboni for sending this my way.

Registered just to comment on this. You do know that Ms. Templeton has just been nominated for an Oscar for best short animation, right? She directed a fantasic stop-motion version of Peter & the Wolf. Old-school animation with minimal CG, shot in Poland. Say goodbye, cute Disney version. That Peter boy can sure carry a grudge.

By the way, I’m not sure if Suzie likes the fact that she’s either on YouTube or this website, but I’ll ask her next time I see her.

She says: “O.K.” ;)

very well done…

That was just plain sad… I love the animation though. The subtle expressions of the dad and the teary eyed eyes of the kid.. Nice job done here…
