La ballade sauvage

Gobelins students Cyril Drouin, May Nguyen, Gabriel Jollymonge, Elen Le Tannou and Marion Stinghe crafted “La ballade sauvage,” a beautiful mini-narrative opener for the International Festival of Animated Film (FIFA) Annecy 2008.

A making of video can be found on the project’s standalone site, but give it some time to load.

Really nice – and as always with great student work, I wish it was longer. I like the aesthetic, and great detail and mood created in the environments. Also, the animation as a whole flowed well and was cohesive, but the smooth character interplay really pushed the narrative beyond it’s already successful structure to a more personal, emotional place. And exceptional rendering of the birds by Marion. Congrats.

This is beautiful on every level!!!
It’s good to see some traditional animation coming out of Gobelins instead of all the 3D stuff, every once in a while (not that the 3D isn’t good, of course!)! 2 thumbs up guys! :-D
