I was first introduced to Tom Rosenthal’s music through Rosanna Wan’s animated music video for his song “I Like It When You’re Gone”.
I was immediately impressed.
Through simple techniques and economic animation, Rosanna takes us on a mesmerizing journey that matches the haunting tone of the song in a wonderful way.
I was pleasantly surprised when I came across another animated music video for Tom Rosenthal, this time by Daniela Sherer.
I was equally impressed. In both cases the visuals perfectly match the tone of the music.
Described as a “semi-abstract, kinda feminist, animated Western. About fate, death, buffaloes, and a magic 8-ball which tells no lies,” Daniela Sherer’s animation takes us on beautifully designed, surreal Western adventure.
Both pieces ooze confidence and I feel are great examples of restraint and the fact that you don’t need to constantly bombard the viewer with high-octane visuals to create an engaging piece.
