Réka Bucsi: Symphony no. 42

Réka Bucsi‘s Symphony no. 42 is an illustrated encyclopedia of surrealist black comedy. Think David O’Reilly with a softer side. Watching it feels like a long steady march of moments. But I couldn’t turn away or skip ahead. Each vignette made me laugh with growing sensation of crazy.

Though the film has just now come online, Symphony has been making the rounds on the festival circuit over the past two years, in addition to being shortlisted for the 87th Oscars. It was made as Bucsi’s graduation film at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest. She is currently represented by Passion Pictures.
