Robert Seidel’s processes: living paintings

seidel.jpg

Robert Seidel, the man behind the work of 2minds has created a wonderfully lush new piece designed specifically to be projected onto the Phyletic Museum in Jena, Germany. Seidel explains it as a”35 by 16 meter full facade projection with a corresponding light choreography, ambient music and synced sound effects” that was especially created for the 100th anniversary of the museum in Germany.

People like Seidel deserve serious respect from those of us in the industry for taking the harder route of creating something personal with their art instead of helping companies sell shoes and sugar water. It is especially impressive to see “motion graphics” techniques and technologies used as installation art. Even if projecting graphics onto a facade is nothing new, it is still a captivating experience, which is why some 20,000 people came to see Seidel’s work in Jena.

jsaunders, you’ve been sounding pretty down in all your recent posts man. What’s going on? Need a new perspective, a new job maybe? Or why not take more video installation examples on here and compare it to commercials?

I see no difference.
The end work is what matters.

Without an entrepreneur class art suffers, the church mainly fed the Italian master we all know.

Brian Eno – http://www.enoweb.co.uk/ – has being doing it, Ryoji Ikeda – http://www.ryojiikeda.com/info/bio+%7C+cv/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2S_2r0J7bHo – as well in the past there was Stan Brakhage and plenty others who did it from their pocket, tho (I think).

And what Cremaster – http://www.cremaster.net/ – really is?

In the end what really matter is the end result.

Art (sad but true) is dependent of the entrepreneur class.

Brian Eno – Ryoji Ikeda = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2S_2r0J7bHo Dave McKean = http://www.colonymedia.co.uk/film.php?people_id=15 and plenty others as Stan Brakhage, Nam June Paik = – http://www.one38.org/nmjnpk/ – in the past made it from their pocket (I think), and what cremaster = http://cremaster.net/ really is?

But maybe the post is ”singing” : We should be more active than “passive” in OUR (not me) relation with society.

This post sounds down? He’s celebrating beautiful work. What’s down about that?

uhh yeah – nothing “down” about it – in fact it cracked me up! – I loved that statement

“People like Seidel deserve serious respect from those of us in the industry for taking the harder route of creating something personal with their art instead of helping companies sell shoes and sugar water.”

It rings especially true to me having done so much work for Coke & Nike and all the while wondering when I could do something important. This statement was actually inspiring to me. It reminds an artist to stay true to their vision and dedicated to their craft while everyone else is $elling out and ca$hing in..
