Richard Fenwick trained in graphic design and started his career at video graphics company Static 2358 where he designed graphic sequences for UK broadcasters Channel 4 and Filmfour.  He then founded his own film and design company OS2 which produced experimental films and design work for clients such as onedotzero, Sony, the BBC and London Records.

In 2000 Fenwick moved into music video direction, first with Flynn Productions and later with Godman Productions.  He directed a number of acclaimed live action and mixed media videos for bands such as Death in Vegas, Teenage Fanclub, Funeral for a Friend, Bent and Timo Maas.

In the last few years Fenwick has directed a number of award winning short films, working across both live action and animation.

Animation
UserGuides is a series of 10 x 3 minute comedies which take a sideways glance at how to cope with the demands of modern living.  With titles like, What to do in the Event of an Earthquake and Administering First Aid, they are a pastiche of the conventional public information film and are designed in the style of instructional manuals.  The serious sounding voice over explains the rational steps one should take in the event of various emergencies and disastrous scenarios.  But the actual events in the films depicted tell a different story.  These films have been shown at onedotzero (who co-produced the series), ResFest, the Annecy Animation and Telluride festivals, amongst many others.

Mixed Media and Live Action Shorts
Fenwick’s shorts range from horror / thriller in Artificial Worlds and The Box to comedy in his most recent film for BBC Films entitled Albert’s Speech and starring Nicholas Burns.  All are characterised by their imaginative casting and art direction.  They have been screened in over 50 film festivals worldwide and broadcast on several television channels including MTV, BBC3, Channel 4, Filmfour and Universal.

Executive Producer Michael Adamo says, “We’re thrilled to have Richard join Passion Pictures.  We’ve long admired his work and we regard him as a true filmmaker and innovator.  We expect he’ll bring the same ingenuity and vision to his work in advertising and believe his command of live-action, animation, and design is perfectly suited for the mixed media world we find ourselves in.”
