The F5 effect: How a two-day event changed one attendee’s life

Editor’s note: The following is a post about F5, a two-day creativity festival started by Motionographer in 2009. The next F5 will be on April 17-18 at New York City’s Terminal 5.

People don’t believe us when we say that our goal with F5 is to change the way you think about your life and work.

It’s a difficult goal — made more difficult by the fact that we don’t always know when we’ve achieved it. Thankfully, there are people like Veronica Velasquez, who reached out to us on her own volition last week.

Hi Justin,

You might not remember me but we met at the second F5 conference a few years back. I was just starting out my career in motion graphics and was already a returning attendee to F5 when we spoke.

I was so inspired and moved by everything I saw that I went to work the next morning and quit my job. I had no back up plan, had no leads or clients (I had been operating Jumbotrons for 4 years). I only had a newfound determination and a terrible need to do something meaningful and inspiring.

After some serious crashing and burning, I eventually got on my feet and on the right path. Now, a few years later I am proud to say I love what I do, and I’m pretty successful at it too! I design games and apps for Intel, Nike and Samsung as well concept design what the future of digital tech is going to look like.

All this is to say that F5 inspired and convinced me to stop messing around and make my life what I always imagined it would be. Since then, it’s been nothing short of amazing. I’m not sure where I would be today, but probably not here and definitely not as happy.

I am for ever grateful and super excited to hear the conference is back!

Thank you. Seriously.
