This stuff is really fun, but it left me wondering what trippy dolphins and enlightened aliens had to do with tbs. Until I read up on their rebrand which was announced in May. It seems like they are pretty much going for an in-your-face adult swim / Fox ADHD direction but less cartoons and more original series. With so many alternatives to cable, I guess TBS has decided to let its freak flag fly and see what kind of attention it can draw. If these ID’s encapsulate the rebrand, I s’pose we’re in for some pretty colorful new original series launches from tbs.

Must watch series is a big part of the new cable game, but ‘must be’ culture could be part of it too. By being unabashedly bizarre, tbs puts a flag on top of its freaky-deaky hill and dares an audience to be cool enough to get it. I’d be worried about a slightly older and/or more aesthetically conservative audience peeling off, but maybe that is fine by tbs.
