“Look-See” and allowing your surroundings to shape your process

“Look-See” is what happens when you combine a profound understanding of percussion with impeccable timing.

Brooklyn’s own Dan Savage recently teamed up with Ambrose Yu to bring together the short, a rich, experimental sequence of events set in a stark geometric world that jumps in and out of positive and negative space — all expertly timed to Ambrose’s novel sound design.

What is most striking about Dan’s new film is that he not only let the process influence this piece but also his surroundings.

As Dan puts it,

Winters in NYC are brutal, so I decided to head west for all of February. My plan was to spend the month focused on a personal project and let unfamiliar surroundings alter my perception, hopefully providing a unique outcome.

I particularly enjoyed this insight behind the making of his new film:

Before heading to LA, I spent 2 nights in a Reno Casino. Holy hell, what a dump. I’ve never felt so trapped, but as I hoped this inspired one of my favorite scenes.

Feeling Trapped in Reno
