“Spark of Science,” produced through Not to Scale, is an elegant visual narrative that tells the story of astrophysicist France A. Cordova, as part of a series of films commissioned by science magazine Nautilus.
France’s own voice was captured here as she describes her early professional years. The rich voice-over is then complimented by Colin’s unique eye for design which pairs perfectly with her sense of wonder and passion for science. Given Colin’s distinct voice and love of whimsy, I can’t imagine a better director for this film.
The story is built around a beautiful atmosphere which employs a restricted purple palette, a sense of light and just the right amount of depth. The careful use of parallax, long shots and effortless transitions make for a overtly cinematic and natural animation.
