Eddy – Faux Soleil | ‘Devil May Cry’ Opening Credits
For the upcoming release of Netflix’s animated adaptation of ‘Devil May Cry’ (Capcom), EDDY teamed up with Studio Mir to craft its opening credits. Directed by Faux Soleil (Arthur Chaumay & Simon Duong Van Huyen), this piece distills the essence of the series into a bold visual statement, blending gothic metal, high-octane action, and Dante’s unapologetic coolness.
Netflix & Mir sought a standout piece that would pay homage to the license’s legacy to hype up its fanbase while introducing a fresh visual treatment to attract new audiences. To achieve this, we developed an art direction centered on sharp silhouettes and vibrant lighting, crafting a graphic, pop-infused aesthetic. High-contrast compositions blend flat colors with glitches and dynamic textural effects —incorporating motifs, screentones, FX, and grain.
The 2D animation embraces Jap’anime Sakuga influences, isolating characters in striking compositions rather than anchoring them in fixed environments. Fast-paced, layered action shots maintain fluid and intense movement, staying true to the spirit of the franchise.
Motion Design plays a dual role, reinforcing animated sequences with shifting textures and silhouettes while also integrating key series elements—Darkcom logos, weapons, and other iconic props—into graphic compositions and transitions.
