4stroke Magic

4stroke has created a series of short animations to introduce some of the work in their demo reel. I took a shine to a couple of them, and I thought I’d share them with you.

These won’t suit everyone’s taste (in fact, I’m sure I’ll get a little flak for posting these), but I’m a huge fan of the macabre style. It reminds me of short stories by my favorite author, Stephen Millhauser, in which magicians and artists elevate their artforms to levels that eventually transcend the normal constraints of reality and sometimes result in the death of the magician or artist in question.

I’m not saying these spots do that. I’m just saying… actually, I’m not really sure what I’m saying. I’m going to stop talking now.

Hm.. I don’t know. I think some of their work feels a bit stiff, but those spots are great. The wonderous Egg Penetration is probably my fav.

I like them – they’re full of vaudeville flavour.

I always like to see the clasical shapes/forms/frames converted into a new dimension by the new media.

I think the ultra smooth sine wave / expression / computational motion is what’s bothering me. the spots are quite well crafted otherwise
