Field Trip is an interesting new project from Impactist. Each of the three "trips" in the series is a little expressionistic gem of sound and video, capturing an ephemeral complex of feelings and memories and re-presenting it in an unexpected light.
My favorite is "Rainy Day Recess," which recalls the tortuous restlessness of being forced to stay indoors when all you wanted to do was go outside and get sweaty chasing girls and kicking balls (or chasing balls and kicking girls, depending on what kind of kid you were).
Big kudos to Impactist for making Field Trip. Yes, it can be thought of as only an act of self-promotion, but these are heartfelt works with the marks of their makers on them. They feel personal and genuine, unlike a slick new reel or self-promo spot can sometimes feel. I’d love to see more studios making work for work’s sake.
Some may even call it art. Or at least artful.
