Leftchannel Does East and West

left.jpg

Leftchannel has recently posted a couple very different projects for two very different markets. The first is an insane :30 spot for Japanese beverage-maker Kirin. As with many examples of Japanese mograph, I’m not entirely sure what to make of it. Sometimes I love it for its cute strangeness. Sometimes I just scratch my head and move on. I’ve watched Leftchannel’s spot several times though, and I’m pretty sure I like it. I’m curious what you all think of it.

The second project is a series of projects for Discovery Channel Europe. Leftchannel created the show packages (logos, bumpers, transitions, opens and closes) for four programs. Each sports clean typography and hints of grid-based layouts—which I suppose is fitting for the European market, birthplace of Swiss design (and the grid).

Oh, and don’t miss this animatic for the Kirin spot. Always good to see the process behind the work.

hahaha. The Kirin piece seems to almost be parody of typical J-spots. I think the animatic is actually stronger/crazier then the end piece…

Still, I laughed out loud when I heard the cover of “Every Breath you take” in karaoke stylez!!!
