Just a Friendly Reminder

Just want to remind everybody of a few ground rules that have always been in place at Motionographer. Most of this stuff is on the About page, but I get enough email about it that it merits a quick post.

1. Money doesn’t get studios onto the Cream O’ the Crop. Nor do gifts. Only solid work does.

2. Sponsors are people who pay for banner advertisements. They are not people who pay to get posted anywhere else on the site.

3. This site is, in essence, a blog. That means it’s driven by the (fickle) tastes of the contributors. Yes, we get the same press releases as everyone else. But for every 20 press releases, we may post one project that we like. And if we quote a press release, we use—you guessed it—quotation marks! (I know, it’s a revolutionary idea.)

4. This site is about inspiration. We try not to be not Ebert & Roeper, giving thumbs up and down in a public forum. We try to post just the stuff we like and keep our comments positive and constructive. We think that’s a much better way of encouraging creativity than verbally destroying a piece.

We are incredibly appreciative of all of you, the readers. This site is for you. The tiny bits of money we make from advertising goes back into the site, not into our pockets.

thanks justin! I try to get on this site at least once a day while im at work to get ideas and see whats fresh in the field. I’m glad you laid out these rules again, as people often get confused/talk smack on others. Please please please keep up the good work, and continue to uphold these rules…thanks again.

Keep doing a good work! ;)

Good idea.
BTW, Motionographer is my favorite Web spot, and your rules are responsible for that :]

Thanks.

Ever since the tween website. About 2 years ago I saw Eyeball NYC’s draggable flash pages and reel for the first time. I was amazed. Then when I viewed Belief’s reel. After that I wanted to produce cool stuff like everyone else. It was great.
I love motion graphics, because of motionographer. Continue to keep this site as positive as possible. There are great things about everything that is posted. I hope everyone takes those things and get inspired. My career was born through this blog.
Great job!

People have sent you money and gifts to get in the cream o crop section? Doesn’t that defeat the point?

Anyway this site is great to see whats out there and who’s making the cool stuff. Its my favorite way to stay on top of whats going on. I think this site has a great content selection.

Thanks a million for keeping it up; I expect to see great things in the future! :)

Is it possible that, while there should be a cream of the crop section, we could also have a subsection somewhere that has a good listing of other work? I like to know what’s out there. Even if something isn’t well done, it can still provide inspiration.

Couldn’t agree more with this post.

Just wanted to say “Thanks, Justin!” So good to hear that you’re staying on track! I continue to spread the word about Motionographer. So far, no one has been disappointed. Keep it up!

Joe, take a look at the wiki. It’s linked in the upper left corner. We may not have been able to get people to write good articles yet but we do have the most comprehensive list of motion graphic studios and freelancers on the interweb.
