Justin Harder & Ford Spencer: Prismacosm

Justin Harder describes his latest work, Prismacosm, as “[a]n array of objective tangents that sporadically connect in coincidental moments.”

Co-directed with Ford Specer and created in collaboration with a team of artists, Prismacosm is a stream of consciousness, self-initiated project that mixes unexpected sound design (courtesy of Sounds Red), muted 80s palettes and hand-wrought graphics in a kind of sexual stew.

Except for the technical merit of using only colored pencils , this is rather dull and not entertaining. JH+pals are usually stand out designers and trendsetters –but really, this is just masturbatory outlet for god-knows-what need for attention. Even the blurb (after the jump) is so self-congratulatory and pompous, i wonder what the compelling idea to ‘publish’ this actually was, besides pure self-glorification.

Seriously? I found this oddly compelling. I have to admit that the sound design really made the piece for me, but the whole thing “clicks” with me. It’s pretty subjective, I guess.

….d…d…dope

this was a breath of fresh air for me personally. no brand anywhere in sight ….joy

That was neat to watch and all, but it lacks any real conceptual merit, nor is the technique even remotely innovative… it was like watching something from the NFB made in the 70s, but without any soul or substance. Or like an oversimplified, shiny-happy and graphical bad impersonation of a Stan Brakhage film. Not to be a jerk, but if someone makes something for self-promo or personal reasons with no client to bog them down, then the bar is much higher. Though I’m sure it’ll lead to some paid project for them, thus fulfilling its purpose. And many kudos to the sound designer.

And the cash is non-existent

>Though I’m sure it’ll lead to some paid project for them, thus fulfilling its purpose
And why shouldn’t it? Everyone needs to eat…

Lovely work, inspiring…well done!
