Stash GSAA Audience Choice Award 2006

The Stash GSAA 2006 finalists are up, and it’s time to pick the Audience Choice Award winners. Instead of simply choosing a favorite film, however, you can give each film one to five stars. Pretty clever system, I’d say.

Hop to it!

Some of the movies are down… :(

Is it me or are most of the motion pieces also the animation pieces. At what point do you judge a piece because of its motion designer rather than animation?

I think they should have been stricter in what could be entered into what.

Plus most (of the 5 that I watched) of the motion pieces were pretty boring.

OK I guess the site was messed up for me as now I’m seeing lots of motion stuff there instead. I take it back (but my comments stand for the animation stuff I saw).

if you select the ‘back to motion graphics’ link for some reason it loads the animation entries in the motion design section…

use the back button on your browser instead.

Its too bad that they decided to compress them so severely considering that this is a situation where people are judging those compressed versions

You know what happens when students spend all their time learning how to make flashy 3D animations instead of focusing on the concept and design of their pieces?

They enter their pieces into a competition like this, and you can’t tell the difference between the animation and the design categories.

You know what happens when Design Snobs start critiquing others instead of working on their own productions and get recognized themselves?

They get bitter and enter blogs like this, and you cant tell if they are just an Opinionated Oaf or a Hater with a lot of time on their hands.

tengustone

I’m sure that sounded really good and cute and all in your head. Do you feel better about yourself now that you let it all out?

If giving a shit about design qualifies me as being a “design snob,” then I’ll wear the title with honor. I’m sorry that you don’t care about that thing that you do for a living, that thing that has a tremendous impact on the world around you, that thing that you spent tens of thousands of dollars to learn how to do. I’m sorry you’re destined and content to live your life in awe of mediocrity (with a steady paycheck).

Also – I haven’t had the time to get bitter yet. I’m sure it’ll happen eventually. For now, I just happen to give a shit. And yes, giving a shit means critiquing others. If you honestly think that good design can exist without criticism, then please crawl back in your little emo hole where nobody says anything positive, negative, or constructive about anything.

Pee to the ess, the way that you proper-noun-ify things makes me giggle.

Only making a point of how arrogant and played out your post sounded. Weve heard it all before man.

But then again, I guess I thought I knew it all too when I was still “wet behind the ears” from art school, so I cant blame you too much. :)

tengustone

“We”? Sounds like it’s just “you.” I would hope that the rest of the design community isn’t so content to be mediocre. But please, humor me, point out what’s “played out” about what I’m saying. Please. I’ll beg, if you’d like.

And if you’ve “heard it all before,” then let’s hear what your responses were to it the last time you heard it. Because every time you’ve responded to my posts, you’ve tossed around some junior-high-level insults (Opinionated Oaf is more elementary school, but whatevs) and then failed to address anything that I’m actually talking about.

Last I checked, your O’Reilly debate methods didn’t work in the real world.

ugh shut up everybody
